david + linda | PIER 7 PROPOSAL FOR FLYTOGRAPHER

This is hands-down one of the sweetest proposals I’ve ever seen, and I’m so excited to share it on the blog! David first reached out to Flytographer to let us know that he, his girlfriend Linda, and his two friends Michael and Toby were coming from Australia for a long vacation in the States. They planned an amazing cross-country adventure, with stops in multiple cities from California all the way to New York.

What Linda didn’t know, however, was that David was planning to drop the knee in San Francisco! The proposal was planned out to every last detail, with all of the guys in on the secret. One of David’s friends even convinced Linda that he had recently lost a bet with David, and therefore had to get his nails professionally done at a salon but didn’t want to go alone. Linda accompanied the poor “loser” to the salon and he treated her to a new manicure – another check off the planning list!

The big day in San Francisco arrived and the group headed off to the piers for a quick view of the city before their dinner plans. Around Pier 7, David suggested turning down the walkway for a better glimpse of the Bay Bridge, and from there, I met up with them..

I approached the group and introduced myself as a student photographer for a local college. I let them know that we were documenting a series on travelers in San Francisco and asked if it would be alright to grab a few group photos to capture their trip. Linda was so excited, she dragged David and her friends over to our planned proposal spot on her own!!

After snapping a few shots of the whole group, I asked if Linda and David were a couple, and if so, would they mind letting me take a few separate photos, just for diversity? Linda happily agreed and David knew it was time. For a while, Linda couldn’t believe what was happening. She kept telling David to “stop being ridiculous!” and “let the nice photographer get her photo!”. Turns out, during the course of their eight-year-long relationship, David had already tricked Linda a couple of times with “fake” proposals (she hadn’t quite forgiven him for getting on his knee a few weeks back to deliver a necklace). Talk about sneaky!! However, it only took a few more assurances from David to convince Linda that this was the real moment.

No joke, I was starting to tear up a little bit myself! It was so worth all the planning and secrecy ahead of time to see Linda’s reaction. After the proposal, Toby and Michael joined in on the photos to wish the happy couple congratulations.

Oh my gosh! These images are so beautiful! A few fake proposals, she must be a patient woman 🙂 They look so happy, and you truly did a wonderful job of capturing that in your photos. What a thoughtful man to have thought to have you there for the proposal!! I love it!

What a sweet couple!! My fiance proposed after 5 years together and there was ONE moment during our 4th valentine’s day together that he pulled out a ring box… and handed me the ring as a valentine’s day gift. He was sneaky too!!! We finally got engaged 10 months later! I can totally relate to this bride’s surprise/shock/denial 😉 What a cute couple!!
