Inquiries for at-home weddings and backyard celebrations have been popping up more and more in my inbox, and I figured it was long past overdue to share this intimate wedding editorial I photographed last year in northern California! Beautifully designed by Cali and her team over at SmittenKiss, this love story is layered in romantic florals and decor, plus a pop of creative whimsy (can we say FLOWER WINGS?) that makes for an incredibly heartfelt vision.
We wanted to craft a love story filled with light and life, so we gathered at a private home in Point Reyes, California. Where the wild forest kisses the shore, I reunited with Melissa and Kellen, a couple I have had the pleasure of photographing before. A custom-built, 9-foot-tall winged structure by Vo Floral Design was, without a doubt, the anchoring feature of this entire session. We battled cloudy skies during the beginning of our shoot, but the sun decided to come through just as Melissa walked up to that incredible installation.. and the results were breathtaking.
That heavenly atmosphere inspired the rest of the blush-and-gold-covered day, and these tones extended to the stunning tablescape. Filled to bursting with jasmine and roses, the natural wooden table was set with golden silverware and candlesticks, uniting elements both glamorous and earthy. The invitation suite and menu followed in the same vein, displaying the looping calligraphy of Crimson Letters on beautifully handpainted invitations with raw edges. The blush cake by Ma Petite Maison is one of my favorite cakes I’ve photographed yet!
