amelia + alvin | SAN FRANCISCO CITY HALL

Weddings

What commonly springs to mind at the words “city hall wedding” is an image of a simple, quick, low-key elopement… but that mental picture isn’t of a wedding held in San Francisco’s City Hall! This local icon, built in 1915, boasts a dome that is 42 feet taller than the dome on the United States Capitol building and houses a breathtaking marble staircase. Even as ordinary city business takes place during working hours, the sounds of ringing applause and cheers dance along the halls, filling the entire structure with the joy of a dozen simultaneous weddings.

From the largest, most opulent ceremonies, to the smallest, sweetest elopements, the variety that can be found around every turn is remarkable. Couples of all ages and backgrounds travel from around the world to choose their favorite hallway, nook, balcony or rotunda, and it is here, in the 4th Floor North Gallery, that Amelia and Alvin said, “I do.”

After a sunny first look on the lawn, we headed inside for the ceremony, and guests were left speechless by a massive, shining Christmas tree at the top of the equally striking staircase. The radiant bride, however, outshone it all. Covered in floral details, from the appliques on her gown to the jeweled blossoms on her headpiece and bracelet, Amelia entered on the arms of both of her beaming parents. Surrounded by 50 of their closest friends and family, Amelia and Alvin were pronounced man and wife.
